What is the best way to clean my platinum jewelry?
I have a solitaire diamond ring in a platinum setting. I’ve only had it professionally cleaned once and the man made it shine like it did the day my husband proposed. I’ve read that platinum is a metal that is displaced instead of ‘lost’ like gold, so I assumed a professional cleaning wouldn’t hurt.
At home, I often leave it in a coffee mug of hot sudsy water for a few minutes and then brush it with a toothbrush. Will this scratch the prongs of my ring? I wouldn’t think so but I figured I’d ask.
Thanks in advance!
That’s the same thing that my mother always did for her wedding ring. She would soak it overnight in warm water with some dish soap inside of the coffee mug. Then in the morning she would buff it gently with an old tooth brushand rinse it in warm water. She also had a “Water Pic” tooth cleaner machine wish would squirt water at high pressure to clean your teeth. That works well also, especially if you have the style of ring that makes cleaning with a toothbrush difficult.
