Tiffany’s Engagement Ring?

I really love this particular style of ring from Tiffany’s

http://www.tiffany.com/Engagement/Item.aspx?sku=21888931

On their website, it says this ring starts at about $1,800. I was thinking about hitting/showing some engagement rings to my boyfriend. We’ve been together for 4 years and talked about marriage.

I figure that he will spend between $3,000-$4,000 on my engagement ring.

What size diamond w/ this setting, could we get for between $3,000-$4,000?

Also, is it true you can buy the setting from Tiffany’s, but buy a diamond elsewhere?
sorry, it should have read “hinting” not “hitting” above.
I’m not expecting. But, just hinting. I’m not going to be like, “Buy me this damn ring”

I’m just going to show certain designs and such. But, I don’t want to show anything too pricey.

For example, if 4K gets you .25 carats with this setting; I’d be crazy to suggest that.

You know…..just some ideas for him though. No demands.

You can get most of Tiffany’s designs from other jewelers. You cannot just buy a setting from Tiffany’s though (without the diamond). Also, you won’t get much diamond/ring from Tiffany’s unless you are going to spend A LOT, a lot more than $3000-$4000, which will get you an absolutely gorgeous ring somewhere else. Tiffany’s is overpriced – you pay for a lot just for the “Tiffany & Co.” that will be engraved on the inside of the band.

Try bluenile.com, they have very reasonable prices for diamonds, because the company has little overheard and a huge stock. You can learn a lot about diamond pricing by quality and they also have a trellis setting for a princess-cut diamond (which is the picture you have provided above) I have a trellis setting for my ring (but it’s not from bluenile).

PS: I agree with others who have posted that you shouldn’t assume how much your boyfriend will spend on the ring. Over thinking and planning your engagement will a) spoil the surprise and b) may leave you disappointed if he picks something different. A lot of guys take pride in picking the perfect ring for their fiance, on their own.

  1. Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
