Most gemstones are priced according to weight. 1. Variety Gem

2. Color

In colored gemstones that is the color that is the most important factor in determining value. 3. Clarity

Rounds are much less common than ovals, and the ovals are cut to preserve as much weight of the raw material as possible. Cut a round gem normally requires a greater loss of the raw stone, and for very expensive materials such as sapphire, ruby, alexandrite and others, this can have a significant effect on prices.
