Need help buying an engagement ring of good value?

I'm thinking about proposing in the next month or so, and I need help buying ring commitment. My mom says she can give me the diamond that my dad gave him, so the diamond that is already there, there was only need to buy a security. She not too worried about the price of the ring or the quality or type or whatever, I just want to give her something nice, that still leaves us enough money, you know, for things really important: homes, children, food, etc.
