Custom Ring Cost Adjustment?

I have a custom ring, and I wonder what is a reasonable price for custom work. The man doing the work has been there for 39 years, has many award *, and was even selected to make a work for use at the Smithsonian Institute. Also recommended for friends. The work is rather heavy, and will look similar to the ring on the link below, but with the finest filigree and negative space. I had a ring designed several years ago. I think for the detail of the work and the cost of gold is a good price. I went for it. You just ask photographs or samples of work done. The ring is beautiful and I love being so well the person receiving.
