Tax deductions and wedding ring?
If I were to donate a wedding ring to the goodwill (or similar) would be tax deductible derivative original purchase price, the current appraised value or the value that they can auction for the item? Also, does anyone know of any good sites and companies dealing with jewelry gifts? I still have the original purchase receipt and can get an appraisal of actual value.
It would be tax deductible (a Goodwill receipt when you donate). If you have a "high value", you may need an evaluation to support deductions. Otherwise, it would go the "worth saving," the value of a similar item sold in Goodwill.
