What are the rules for wedding rings for couples not religious?

My girlfriend and I are not religious, but like the idea of having a gold and silver (for the bride) set wedding rings, and Catholics. Is it advisable to do? In general, can we get the rings that we like, or there is a set of guidelines we must follow?
