Can I sell a diamond ring at the store?

My sister gave me a diamond ring she got from her ex-boyfriend, I went to tell my girlfriend, but in Instead, they sell and buy a new one. Can I walk to the store and say I want to sell it? or do I need an animal to me? and I am only 16 years old, I stopped selling it? I can not total cash on me when they buy it? despite their value as 3000 ~ 4000?
