engagement ring tradition

Would u accept a turquoise and diamond engagement ring instead of the huge diamond if he had a special meaning?
I respect the tradition, do not feel the need to get a huge diamond ring face to show my affection. Especially with the diamonds in the dispute have been around them (diamonds blood). And while the blood diamonds are not as widely distributed, the idea of valuing a rock so high is not resolved well for me. Soo, I want my girlfriend a diamond ring on respect for tradition, but instead of the large diamond center stone, which is a turquoise stone. Why turquoise? Because it is a symbol of prosperity that relates well to the idea of marriage. He also has great cultural significance to me (as Dine American Indian), and its healing properties, especially when is given as a gift. Sooo, ladies and my question is whether he would accept a ring as I have described, rather than a huge diamond, if he had a special meaning. Still be proud of it?
My first commitment "ring" was a form of Coca-Cola! I still have it hidden after nearly 30 years. If she she loves also loves her choice of ring, I think your idea is very sweet!
