Is not it common for husbands to wear the wedding ring?

I recently got married six weeks ago and the wedding ring is causing pain in my hand left. The problem is I have very narrow, but large knuckles. The ring must be large enough to fit on the knuckles, but it's so great I can see a big difference between the finger and the ring. Besides it is so loose, I can not put my three fingers together, because the ring is so big. My hand is starting to go numb at night and feel like I always have a wound on the fingers on both sides of the ring. I know it takes a while to get used to, but after using every day for 6 weeks, I'm not used to it and is very painful. I am proud to show off my ring and happy to be married, but I think my wife will not be happy if I choose not to use it. What I have no choice. Is it common for men to wear your ring on a necklace?

I've been married to a very long time and never wear my wedding ring, because I do not wear jewelry at all, but I'm committed to my wife and that's all that matters.
