How do I customize my black dress – HELP!?

I am attending a semi-formal event and I'm wearing a black dress – that fits under the bust and out there, think Marilyn Monroe and black peep-toe pumps. Should I wear my pendant and blue topaz ring (white gold) and diamond studs or go to something else? I am planning wear their hair in an updo. I am also thinking about a coat or shawl of some sort. This event is in November and will be a little chilly, but I do not want anything too bulky. Any suggestions would be appreciated, as are links / photos! Thanks in advance ~

blue topaz seem magnificent contrast with the black, I think we let go and put the ring on the diamond studs. or have matching earrings in shades of blue that I think you look pretty too. hmm bust out the dress right? then I think it exaggerates the shawl. only adhere to the simplicity that can never go wrong.
